Then I go on my little round, getting familiar with the 3 groups of Bonobos. I was lucky enough the other day to see little Lomela, the biggest of the babies be introduced into group 3...the juveniles. Her mama Henriette took her into the enclosure and then three of the group members were let in with them…I have to admit I was totally choked seeing the reunion of the three bonobos with Henriette who was their mama when they were babies. They ran at her screaming and hugged her so much…it was really moving! The move for Lomela has gone well and she is well integrated into her new group, it must have been a bit overwhelming for her at first as she was getting so much attention.
I have now found out that I will be heading off to the Lomako forest on the 9th of November so I will most likely be staying the extra week here in Lola.
Today I met Claudine André, the founder and president of Lola ya Bonobo. She is a really lovely woman. She talked to us about the bonobos here, telling us various little anecdotes and interesting behavioural elements that she has seen over the years. She is a very interesting woman and is so passionate about bonobos.
I also found out today that one of the Bonobos here at Lola, Bwende, may be a hybrid, half chimp, half bonobo. They are doing genetic analysis to confirm but the preliminary results seem to indicate that he is. Interesting!
La vie ici à Lola est superbe. Je me lève le matin, aide à monter les bébés jusqu’à la nursery et là, d’habitude, je reste jouer un peu avec la petite Masisi! Elle est adorable, aime les câlins et les chatouilles et essaye de sortir les affaires de nos poches.
Ensuite je continue mon petit tour, je me familiarise bien avec les trois groupes de Bonobos. J’ai eu la chance l’autre jour d'être présente lors de l'introduction de la petite Lomela, la plus grande des bébés, dans le groupe 3...les juvéniles. Sa Mama Henriette l’a emmenée dans l’enclos et puis ils ont fait entrer trois membre de groupe…J’avoue avoir été bien émue de voir les trois petits se réunir avec Henriette qui était leur mama quand ils étaient bébés. Ils se sont précipités vers elle et lui ont fait plein de câlins… c’était très émouvant! Lomela se plaît bien dans son nouveau groupe et elle est bien intégrée, ça a dû lui faire de l’effet avec toute l’attention qu’elle a reçu à son arrivée.
Il semble maintenant que je vais partir à Lomako le 9 novembre seulement donc je vais sûrement rester une semaine de plus ici à Lola.
Aujourd’hui j’ai rencontré Madame Claudine André, la fondatrice et la présidente de Lola ya Bonobo. Elle est vraiment très sympa, elle nous a parlé des Bonobos ici à Lola, nous racontant des anecdotes et des petits détails de comportement intéressant qu’elle a pu voir ici au fil des années. Elle est très intéressante à écouter et est passionnée par ses Bonobos.
J’ai aussi appris aujourd’hui qu’un des Bonobos, Bwende, est peut-être un hybride…moitié chimpanzé, moitié Bonobo. Ils sont en train de faire des analyses génétiques complémentaires mais les résultats préliminaires l’indique! Intéressant!
