Bonobos....where do I start? Les Bonobos....par ou commencer?

Bonobos along with chimpanzees are our closest relatives, we have 98.7% of our DNA in common. Bonobos live in the rainforest of the Congo Basin and can be found only to the south of the Congo river, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), with Chimpanzees and Gorillas living to the north. Bonobos are an endangered species, it is believed there are between 20 000 and 60 000 left in the wild. Their numbers are dwindling due to deforestation, the bushmeat-trade and the pet-trade and at the current rate there will be none left within less than 50 years. Bonobos prime enemy is man.

Bonobos live by the basic principle "MAKE LOVE, NOT WAR!" They use sex in many different social contexts, principally to calm themselves and one another when tension is rising.

Les Bonobos et les Chimpanzés sont nos cousins les plus proches partageant 98.7% d'ADN commune avec nous. Les Bonobos vivent dans la forêt équatoriale du Bassin du Congo. On ne les trouve qu'au sud du fleuve Congo en République Démocratique du Congo (RDC), alors que les Chimpanzés et Gorilles habitent au nord du fleuve. Les Bonobos sont une espèce menacée, la population dans la nature est estimée entre 20 000 et 60 000. Leur nombre décroit à cause de la déforestation, le braconnage et la vente en tant qu'animaux de compagnie. A ce rythme, il n'y en aura plus dans moins de 50 ans. L'ennemi principal du Bonobo est l'homme!

Les Bonobos vivent avec le principe "FAITES L'AMOUR, PAS LA GUERRE!" Ils utilisent le sexe dans divers contextes sociaux, notamment pour se calmer, les uns les autres en cas de tension.

The making of my very own chair! La fabrication de ma propre chaise!

Back in January when I was feeling low and spending a lot of time at the workshop with the carpenters who were making 69 chairs, I did a lot of observing and one day whilst fooling around with a piece of wood I decided to prove myself. Prove that I am not a stupid, weak woman as some may be inclined to think! And so I set about making my own chair! I loved seeing the look on the faces of the locals as they arrived to see the ‘mondele’ (white person) sawing and filing and hammering along with all these strong lads.

En janvier quand je n’avais pas le moral, j’ai passé beaucoup de temps à l’atelier avec les menuisiers qui avaient 69 chaises à fabriquer. J’ai beaucoup observer leur travail et un jour en jouant avec un bout de bois j’ai décidé de faire mes preuves. Prouver que je ne suis pas une simple femme faible comme certains peuvent le croire ! Et donc j’ai commencé à fabriquer ma propre chaise ! J’ai adoré voir les expressions des gens du coin quand ils arrivaient pour voir la ’mondele’ (blanche) scier, raboter et clouer auprès de ces costauds !

Finalement, poncer et vernir pour donner une belle finition… J’aimerais tellement remener ma chaise chez moi!
